Today, almost every business is absolutely reliant on data, and on the infrastructure they use to store, process, and access that data. The risk of data loss exists in all businesses and comes in all shapes and sizes. It can be from an accidentally deleted document to a catastrophic server failure that wipes out a critical database. Every data loss results in loss of a few hours of productive time as an employee is forced to redo work that has already been done or millions of dollars and loss of sales.

Human Error

Most of the data losses happen because people press the wrong button, type the wrong command, or delete something they shouldn't. In a few cases, data loss can also be due to software bugs, which can cause data to be corrupted, overwritten, or simply deleted. The solution for this is to always have the data back-up.

Hardware Failure

This cause is more than common and is experienced by most of the businesses. This happens due to the lifespan of the hard disk which is for three years. It comes with an increased likelihood of failure at the beginning and the end of that timeframe. Eventually, every computer hardware fails.

Online Crime

The online crime was rampant a couple of years ago. However, back then there was a good chance your data would be returned if you pay ransom to the criminals. Today, the chances are high that the criminals will take your money and you'll never see your data again.

The best way to keep your data safe is to have an up-to-date disaster recovery plan. It is also important to have 3 2 1 backup strategy i.e. there should be three copies of all data. Data should be kept on at least two different mediums, and at least one of the backups should be offsite.
